Keep in mind, that HDLoader only works with PS2 games. There is a hard drive solution for the slim, but it involves USB drives and since the PS2 has 1.1's, the load times aren't that much better than the actual discs and FMV's stutter a lot (at least in my experience). HDloader is great, lets me load games of any region (though PAL games won't on my NTSC TV) so that I get better load times, and much less wear on my PS2's lasers. On my 'fat,' I use a slide card until it broke and then bought a flip top case.

On my slim, I taped down the buttons so that the PS2 thinks the lid is closed. I used ESR to patch Xenosaga Episode I and burned it at the slowest speed my drive allows (3x), but when I put the disc into my PS2 Slim (has flip top installed), I see the Free McBoot logo but it defaults to the browser saying 'DVD player is not yet set up. There is a launcher for PSX backups/imports, but you need a way to swap without pressing the eject button (since that triggers the PS2's disc check). Runs DivX and XviD files okay to my experience, but I haven't used it extensively. It can access files through a network, an attached hard drive, the memory card itself, the USB port, and I think even the DVD drive. When I have the disc I burned in the drive, it shows ‘invalid media’, but the larger problem is that not a single option on this screen does anything. I’m not sure exactly how, but somewhere along the line I must have installed something by accident because now I get a different looking screen upon startup – looks like it’s ESR r9b.

But PS2 games arent special you can even use the built tools with Windows 10 to burn an. It’s possible that was a little too advanced. Because if Free MC Boot its important to patch with ESR Patcher.

My system doesn’t recognize the burned disc, so there is definitely a step I’m missing that would allow me to play burned DVD-R discs without any physical mods to my PS2. I’ve recently gotten motivated to try again, and I wanted to run a Colecovision emulator from a burned disc. New icon - Fixed problem with parsing parameters (it would only parse correctly if 2 or more parameters were specified) so dragging a single file onto the executable should work now. I was able to get the SNES & SEGA emulators to work a little, but it was a struggle. - Patched images, that are then unpatched are more like the original. A while back I just gave up after finding it just too unstable and difficult to use. I bought one of those Free McBoot memory cards for my PS2 Slim with the goal of running a few retro console emulators. This thread caught my eye because if anyone could be described as a “noob” with this stuff, it’s me.
